DSCA PFAS Study

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Dry-Cleaning Solvent
Cleanup Act (DSCA) Program conducted a pilot study to evaluate the occurrence and potential
sources of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at selected dry-cleaning sites across North
Carolina. The study included groundwater sampling at 14 DSCA Program sites (upgradient and
source area monitoring wells) and collection of dry-cleaning process samples at five active
facilities, including virgin and used solvents, waste streams, and selected cleaning products.

The final report is separated into two reports – a main report with evaluation of the data and conclusions based on the results of the pilot study and a supplemental report which contains technical information such as sampling procedures, quality assurance/quality control protocols and laboratory analytical reports.  The reports can be found here  PFAS Pilot Study Main Report and PFAS Pilot Study Supplemental Report.

Public Notices

DSCA statutes require a public notice and comment period for any remediation strategy that relies, i n part, on land-use restrictions. The strategy used to address risks posed by contamination at a DSCA site is documented in a risk management plan, or RMP. The RMPs listed below are currently open for public review and comment. Anyone wishing to comment must provide comments in accordance with the public notice announcement for the related RMP.
