This posting is to notify the public of a request by General Electric Company to modify its Hazardous Waste Management Permit for post-closure care (Permit No. NCD 003 237 948-R3), issued by NCDEQ, Division of Waste Management on February 4, 2021. for its former Hickory Manufacturing facility located at 1223 Fairgrove Church Road in Conover (Catawba County). The requested Class II permit modification will allow GE to add three additional recovery wells to the existing Remedial Action System (RAS) network.

The draft permit will include Duke Energy’s construction and operation of the second landfill (called the South Starter Landfill) for the disposal of excavated coal ash at the Allen Steam Station. Members of the public are invited to attend the public hearing online or by phone and provide their comments on the proposed permit. Comments will be accepted until November 12.
