This permitted facility discharges treated municipal wastewater to the Tuskasegee River, a class B water in the Little Tennessee River Basin. Currently fecal coliform, pH, and total residual chlorine are water quality limited. This discharge may affect future allocations in this segment of the Tuckasegee River. Currently BOD, ammonia, fecal coliform, dissolved oxygen, pH, total residual chlorine, total arsenic, total molybdenum, total silver, total selenium, and total thallium are water quality limited. The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources is now accepting proposals through the Clean Water Act-Section 319 (h) Nonpoint Source Grant Funding Program for projects seeking to restore waters in North Carolina impaired by nonpoint source pollution.

A new education program by NC Stream Watch offers information on water resource management, as well as a North Carolina science standards-aligned curriculum for teaching about water quality, quantity and the importance of conservation.
