DEQ Division of Water Resources awards more than $1.5M for stream restoration, water management, recreation projects

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) has awarded more than $1.5 million in grants to support stream restoration, water-based recreation and water management projects across North Carolina.

The grants were awarded to nine local governments through the Water Resources Development Grant program.

DWR accepting public comments on the Draft Rocky River Turbidity TMDL - Yadkin River Basin

The Draft Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for turbidity for the Rocky River (Yadkin River Basin), North Carolina is now available for public comment. The draft TMDL was developed to meet requirements of Section 303(d) of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to address turbidity impairments. It is subject to approval by EPA.

DEQ releases data from preliminary study of PFAS in biosolids, wastewater

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resource (DWR) has released data from a preliminary study that found per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) present in soil, wastewater and biosolids, the nutrient-rich organic material after wastewater has been treated. The study is the agency’s first investigation assessing PFAS concentrations in biosolids across the state.
