NOAA’s National Estuarine Research Reserve System requires periodic revision of management plans for sites in the system. The revised management plan for the N.C. National Estuarine Research Reserve outlines a strategic plan; administrative structure; research and monitoring, education, stewardship, and training programs of the reserve; resource protection and manipulation plans; restoration management plan; public access and visitor use plan; consideration for future land acquisition; and facility development to support reserve operations.
The Currituck Banks Reserve site near Corolla reopened to visitors today after closure due to Hurricane Dorian.
The Emily and Richardson Preyer Buckridge Coastal Reserve site near Columbia reopened to visitors today after closure due to Hurricane Dorian.
Two additional N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve sites are open to visitors after closure due to Hurricane Dorian.

The sites of the North Carolina Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve will close to visitors at dusk today until further notice due to the threat of damage from Hurricane Dorian and to protect public safety from the potential risk of downed trees, flooding and other hazards.

Save the date for UNCW's Center for Marine Science annual open house! Come out to learn more about coastal research and join us for informational outdoor displays & activities, food trucks, live demos, tours, and more! Stop by our booth to help and learn more about the NC Coastal Reserve and all of the great work being done by other researchers at the Center. Tours include many labs, as well as the shellfish research hatchery - tours fill up quick and require registration.

Join us to celebrate National Estuaries Week by cleaning up the beach at Masonboro Island on September 17th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. We will divide into teams to cover select portions of the island. 

Limited transportation will be available so sign up is required! If you have you own transportation, we can assign your team a clean-up location.
