Notice of Intent to Issue a NPDES Wastewater Permit NC0002861 City of Sanford
The North Carolina Environmental Management Commission proposes to issue a NPDES wastewater discharge permit to the person(s) listed below. Written comments regarding the proposed permit will be accepted until 30 days after the publish date of this notice. The Director of the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR) may hold a public hearing should there be a significant degree of public interest. Please mail comments and/or information requests to DWR at the above address. Interested persons may visit the DWR at 512 N. Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC 27604 to review the information on file. Additional information on NPDES permits and this notice may be found on our website: https://deq.nc.gov/public-notices-hearings,or by calling (919) 707-3601. The City of Sanford [PO Box 3729, Sanford, NC 27331] has requested modification of permit NC0002861 for Sanford WTP [7441 Poplar Springs Church Rd] located in Lee County. This permitted facility discharges treated backwash wastewater to an unnamed tributary to the Cape Fear River in the Cape Fear River Basin. Currently, Total Residual Chlorine and Total Copper are water quality limited. This discharge may affect future allocations in this segment of the receiving stream. The N.C. Division of Coastal Management (DCM) is accepting applications for grants to improve public beach access for the 2024 fiscal year. Approximately $3 million in funding is available to help local governments in 20 coastal counties improve public access to coastal beaches and waters. The Public Beach and Coastal Waterfront Access program provides matching funds to local governments to construct low-cost public access facilities.
