Division of Coastal Management (DCM) is announcing the availability of approximately $3 million in funding to help local governments in 20 coastal counties improve public access to coastal beaches and waters for the 2023-24 fiscal year. The Public Beach and Coastal Waterfront Access program provides matching funds to local governments to construct low-cost public access facilities.

The Director of the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR) may hold a public hearing should there be a significant degree of public interest. Box 190, Albemarle, NC 28002] has requested renewal of NPDES permit NC0024244 for its Long Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, located in Stanly County. This permitted facility discharges treated municipal and industrial wastewater to Long Creek, a Class C water in the Yadkin River Basin. Some of the parameters in their permit are water quality limited. This discharge may affect future allocations in this segment of Long Creek. Currently, fecal coliform, total residual chlorine, and ammonia nitrogen are water quality limited. This discharge may affect future allocations in this portion of the watershed.
