About Us

DEQ's Energy Group is dedicated to ensuring a sustainable energy future for the citizens of North Carolina. We provide services and technical expertise focused on energy efficiency in the public sector, encourage the growth and development of the state’s energy economy with the goal of making North Carolina a leader in the creation of energy jobs. We also work to increase the use of renewable energy, alternative fuels and energy efficiency throughout the state, serving as the principal source of information for these energy areas. In addition, the group provides staffing for the state Energy Policy Council.

Clean Energy Plan Development Process

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is charged with collaborating with businesses, industries, power providers, technology developers, North Carolina residents, local governments and other interested stakeholders to increase the utilization of clean energy technologies, energy efficiency measures, and clean transportation solutions.  DEQ is tasked to deliver the Clean Energy Plan to the Governor by October 1, 2019.
