The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) will hold a public hearing on Aug. 19 in order to accept public comments on the draft renewal water discharge permit for Badin Business Park, a former Alcoa Inc. aluminum industrial facility located in Badin in Stanly County.

The purpose of the hearing is to give the opportunity to comment on the draft NPDES permit. Badin Business Park LLC has applied for a renewal of its NPDES wastewater permit (NC0004308) for its facility located at the intersection of NC Hwy. 740 & NCSR 1719, Badin, Stanly County, NC. The facility will discharge treated groundwater and stormwater to Little Mountain Creek (Class WS-IV) and Badin Lake (Class WS-IV, B; CA) in the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin. This discharge may affect future allocations in this portion of the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) will hold public hearings on June 12 and June 24 to accept public feedback on Enbridge Gas North Carolina’s application for a water quality certification related to the proposed construction of a high-pressure steel natural gas transmission pipeline in Rockingham, Caswell and Person counties.
