The Division of Marine Fisheries is hosting a series of public outreach meetings to provide updates and gather input on the development and implementation of an automated system that will be used to schedule observer trips for the estuarine anchored gill-net fishery in North Carolina. The Division is working with the N.C. Department of Information Technology to develop the Observer Trip Scheduling System (OTSS), which will begin testing this fall.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold a public stakeholder input session May 9, 2023, as part of the renewal process for six Animal Feeding Operations General Permits. Input from the event, as well as input received during the 60-day comment period through June 5, will be considered in the development of the draft permits which will become effective in 2024.
The Habitat and Water Quality Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. on April 19, 2023.
The Shellfish/Crustacean Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. on April 18, 2023.
The Finfish Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. on April 13, 2023.
The Southern Regional Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. on April 12, 2023.
The Northern Regional Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. on April 11, 2023.
The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold three outreach meetings in the coming weeks to talk with charter/for-hire fishing owners and operators.
Division Director Kathy Rawls will host the meetings to discuss the needs of the for-hire industry. The meetings will be similar to the ones held this past fall in Manteo and Hatteras where those attending the meeting can personally voice their concerns to Rawls and other Division staff.
