State coastal agency offering two free low impact development workshops in May

The N.C. Division of Coastal Management is offering two free workshops for real estate professionals, homeowners associations and property owners in May.

The goal of the workshops is to help participants learn about low impact development basics for water quality protection. Real estate professionals will receive four elective continuing education credits from the N.C. Real Estate Commission.

The first workshop will be held on May 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Coastal Studies Institute, Room R262, 850 NC-345 in Wanchese. The second workshop will be held on May 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the same location.

At these workshops, participants will:

  • Learn how land use decisions impact water quality;
  • Learn low impact development techniques that help protect water quality;
  • Learn about the costs and benefits of implementing low impact development;
  • Learn about managing stormwater control measures to meet state and local regulations and to maintain functionality and aesthetics; 
  • Learn about the town of Nag Head’s efforts to manage stormwater; and
  • Learn about funding available to implement stormwater improvements.
