The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) will host a public hearing tomorrow, July 10, on the proposed coal ash beneficiation project at the Duke Energy Progress’ H.F. Lee Steam Electric Plant. The hearing will be held in the Moffatt Auditorium on the Wayne Community College campus in Goldsboro. The public is invited to provide feedback on the plan to construct a fly ash processing facility at the plant.

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality wants to remind the public that the 30-day public comment period for the proposed order will conclude on July 11. DEQ filed a proposed court order on June 11 to require the Chemours Company to implement numerous measures to eliminate or reduce air emissions and water impacts caused by GenX and related compounds, and address contamination in and around the Fayetteville Works facility.

Officials with the N.C. Division of Water Resources are urging the public to avoid contact with green or blue water in the Chowan River due to an algal bloom that has lingered in the area since June 20. The bloom is located about 12 miles upstream of Edenton, however, algae can easily move to other areas.

The N.C. Division of Water Resources will accept feedback on a draft permit for Belews Creek Steam Station until July 30, 2018. Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC has applied for a renewal of its NPDES wastewater permit (NC0024406) for the Belews Creek Steam Station, 3195 Pine Hall Road; Belews Creek, N.C., Stokes County.

The N.C . Division of Coastal Management and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office are urging the public to act responsibly during the July Fourth holiday at the Masonboro Island Reserve, a research reserve and dedicated state nature preserve.

Officials with the N.C. Division of Water Resources are seeking public feedback on a draft wastewater permit for the Cape Fear Steam Electric Power Plant in Moncure, N.C. The facility discharges treated industrial wastewater and stormwater to the Cape Fear River in Chatham County.

The Beaufort Docks Marina in Beaufort is the newest facility to be certified as a North Carolina Clean Marina, a designation given to marinas that exceed minimum regulatory requirements.

The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission’s Science Panel will meet June 29 in Wilmington to review updated proposed inlet hazard area boundaries using the amended methodology as recommended by the panel at their meeting on December 5, 2017.
