Research
DEQ’s staff includes many scientists, engineers and others who are devoted to learning more about our environment by collecting and evaluating hundreds of different types of data; conducting field research; analyzing water, air and soil samples; using GIS mapping techniques; and many other methods of scientific exploration.
This mountain of research helps us know how well we’re doing in our ongoing mission to protect North Carolina’s environment. Each of our divisions has their own specialized field of research and data, from air quality forecasts to oceanfront erosion rates to water quality data.
