Whether you are just getting started or you are a veteran of waste reduction, this section contains guidance that will help your organization in your journey to zero waste.
The Environmental Protection Agency defines Pollution Prevention (P2) as “any practice that reduces, eliminates, or prevents pollution at its source.” The P2 tools and strategies should be done often and early in the journey. The Division of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service (DEACS) has many training, networking and technical assistance resources to support a diverse array of organizations with this source reduction.
The journey to zero can seem daunting at first, but every success starts somewhere. Many facilities start by forming a team, reviewing waste hauling bills and performing a dumpster dive. From there, they create a baseline and a goal. This Best Management Practices section will walk you through those steps and more.
These core pieces of the zero waste to landfill puzzle include guidance that has been tried and tested by other organizations and will help you develop a successful waste reduction program.
