Polluted Area Proclamations

Polluted area proclamations include temporary closures and re-openings to shellfish harvest as a result of bacteriological water quality, as well as changes in descriptions of permanently closed areas due to Sanitary Survey findings.

PA-67-2022

This proclamation returns the following areas to normal closure boundaries: Cape Fear River, Bald Head Island, Queens Creek, and White Oak River.

Effective Date: Shellfish reopenings effective sunrise, Friday, July 29th, 2022

Issued Date: 7/28/2022

Counties Affected: Brunswick, New Hanover, Onslow, and Carteret

PA-66-2022

This proclamation returns the following areas to normal closure boundaries:  Middle Sound, Pages Creek, Newport River, Core Creek, a portion of North River, Jarrett Bay, Oyster Creek, Brett Bay, and Nelson Bay.

Effective Date: Shellfish reopenings effective sunrise, Thursday, July 28, 2022.

PA-65-2022

This proclamation returns the following areas to normal closure boundaries:  Bogue Sound, Deer Creek, Hunting Island Bay, Goose Creek, Sanders Creek, Hoop Pole Creek, and Tar Landing Bay.

PA-64-2022

This proclamation closes the following areas in Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties:  all waters between permanent closure line at IWW "89" and South Carolina State line, Tubbs Inlet; all waters in Middle Sound between Figure Eight Island Bridge and Wrightsville Beach Bridge, including Pages Creek; all waters from the Intracoastal Waterway to the mainland between IWW "105" near Green Channel and the Figure Eight Island Bridge, including the Intracoastal Waterway. 

Effective Date: Shellfish Temporary Closures effective 8:15 A.M., Sunday, July 24, 2022.

PA-62-2022

This proclamation closes the following areas in Onslow and Carteret Counties:  IWW to the mainland between the Emerald Isle High-rise Bridge and Beacon "55", to include Intracoastal Waterway, Queens Creek, and White Oak River; all waters in Bogue Sound between permanent closure line at Fort Macon and the Emerald Isle High-rise Bridge, to include Deer Creek, Hunting Island Bay, Goose Creek, Sanders Creek, Hoop Pole Creek, Tar Landing Bay, and all other creeks and tributaries within in said boundaries; Newport River and Core Creek; North River and Ward Creek; Jarrett Bay; Oyster Creek; Brett Bay; and Nelson Bay.

Effective Date: Shellfish Temporary Closures effective 8:05 A.M., Friday, July 22, 2022.

This proclamation returns the following area to normal closure boundaries:  Bogue Sound.

This proclamation closes the following areas in Carteret County:  a portion of Bogue Sound between the permanent closure line at Fort Macon and a line from the mainland to IWW "8" to point on Bogue Banks, to include Tar Landing Bay; Newport River, North River, Ward Creek, and Whitehurst Creek.
