Everyday DWM employees drive thousands of miles conducting State business.  These miles represent a significant risk. The Division of Waste Management's Safe Driver Recognition is a program intended to encourage safe driving behaviors and reduce the risk by recognizing incident free driving.

All Waste Management Employees are eligible and encouraged to participate. The Program has been designed to recognize safe drivers at six levels, each requiring a minimum number of miles. Level 1 begins at 250 miles and Level 6 requires 10,000 miles. All miles must have been driven after January 1, 2010. Employees should request recognition at the highest level for which they qualify.  Additional levels will be added as necessary.

Once an employee drives the minimum number of miles without incident (i.e. at-fault collisions, traffic tickets including parking tickets, verified Motor Fleet Management complaints and adheres to the NC DEQ Cell Phone while Diving Policy) they can submit the Safe Driver Recognition form to the Safety Committee. The employee will then receive written recognition for the Level requested.
