Polluted Area Proclamations

Polluted area proclamations include temporary closures and re-openings to shellfish harvest as a result of bacteriological water quality, as well as changes in descriptions of permanently closed areas due to Sanitary Survey findings.

This proclamation returns the following areas to normal closure boundaries: Stump Sound and Alligator Bay.

This proclamation returns the following areas to normal closure boundaries: Myrtle Grove Sound, Masonboro Sound, Salliers Bay, Freeman Creek, Queens Creek, Ocracoke, and Hatteras.

This proclamation returns the following areas to normal boundaries effective at sunrise, Saturday, September 9, 2023: Shallotte Inlet, Lockwoods Folly Inlet, Lockwoods Folly River, Bear Creek, Bear Inlet, White Oak River, a portion of Newport River, Core Creek, Pamlico River, Pungo River, Spencer Bay, Swanquarter Bay, Wysocking Bay, and Long Shoal River.

This proclamation closes Brunswick County, New Hanover County, Pender County, Onslow County, Bogue Sound, Newport River, North River, Ward Creek, Straits, Back Sound, Whitehurst Creek, Sleepy Creek, Jarrett Bay, Oyster Creek, Brett Bay, Nelson Bay, a portion of Core Sound, Thorofare Bay, Cedar Island Bay, West Bay, Long Bay, Turnagain Bay, Neuse River, South River, Adams Creek, Bay River, Jones Bay, Pamlico River, Pungo River, Spencer Bay, Rose Bay, Swanquarter Bay, Juniper Bay, Wysocking Bay, Long Shoal River, Ocracoke, and Hatteras, due to the impacts from Tropical Storm Idalia.
