NC Approved Training (WW)

The NC Operator Certification program does not conduct schools or training classes.

The WPCSOCC has approved remote (virtual) Continuing Education through Dec 31, 2026.  Certification Schools need to be in-person.

Information for Training Providers

 

Continuing Education Approval Application (NEW Application - April 2024)

  • IMPORTANT: Download and use the new Word doc application (as of April 2024.) Save a copy with your information and use it as your own template for next time.
  • and, where needed:
  • Please submit applications 30 days prior to courses for which you are seeking approval.
  • Wastewater and Drinking Water are separate programs: use the same application but send it to either contact list on the application.
  • Courses can NOT include sales pitches and/or endorsements.

Rosters

Training Providers commit to submit rosters within 15 days of class completion. Without Roster submittal, Operators will not get credit.

Roster Submittal Methods:

  1. Email roster to: certadmin@deq.nc.gov
  2. Via Online Roster Submittal Program website 
    • Wastewater providers can use either email or online roster submittal program
    • (Drinking water providers  have to use the online roster submittal program, so if it is easy for yoou to use it, you may.)
    • Roster Submittal Instructions 
    • This is different than the Operator Portal but you still will need an NCID.

Becoming a Certification School Provider

If you are interested in becoming a Certification School Provider, use this application.  Staff will  develop an application packet and present it to the WPCSOCC on your behalf. Contact us and we can help you with your application and other required information. Contact patrick.beggs@deq.nc.gov

Continuing Education: Every operator is required to obtain 6 hours of approved continuing education each year.

To find the # of continuing credits you have or need:

Courses need to be approved by the NC Operator Certification Program and assigned a course #. Ask the course provider for the approved NC course #. It will be in this format:  CE######## (CE with 8 digits following). Get the course # BEFORE taking the course.

Providers submit class rosters but Operators are responsible to keep track of their classed and keep you certificates until the end of  the year.

 

Find Approved Continuing Education Classes with this report. Some training providers list their approved classes ahead of time. 

Not all classes get listed in the report above.  For more classes and for most online classes, contact training providers directly. Some training providers are listed below.  Make sure you get a NC CE# before you take a class. Without a CE # it it NOT an approved course. If you are a continuing education provider and would like your website listed above, please contact patrick.beggs@deq.nc.gov

To be eligible to take the NC Wastewater Operator Certification Exam, applicants need to participate in the appropriate certification school.

The NC Rural Water Association has a Wastewater Operator Apprenticeship Program. Check is out HERE.

  • The type of operator required for a wastewater system is dependent upon the facility classification, which is determine by the treatment outlined in the facility permit.
  • The type of operator certification matches the facility classification. For example: SI classification requires SI operators;  WW1 classification (biological wastewater) requires WW1 operators.
