EPA Methods Update Rules (MUR)
Method Update Rule 2024
The latest update to 40 CFR Part 136 was published April 16, 2024, and can be viewed here: 2024 MUR
The analytical methods listed in Tables IA through IH are the methods now required for analysis and reporting of regulatory data to the State.
For convenience, a list of updated methods that may be applicable to you may be found here: Updated Methods
In order to maintain certification, the new method implementation timeline below must be met.
- By July 16, 2024 an Amendment to Laboratory Certification Application requesting to drop the old methods and add the new methods
- By October 16, 2024, submit the following:
- Revision history pages (not the entire SOP) of applicable SOPs to show that the required changes have been incorporated into your SOPs and are ready to be implemented into your lab practices.
- Training documentation for the new revision to show that applicable analysts have been adequately trained on the new method requirements.
- As long as the final October 16th deadline is met, there will be no fee for updating to newly approved methods.
- After October 16th, all unapproved methods will be removed from your Certified Parameters Listing (CPL). Adding any of the new methods after that date will incur the customary fee.
Once ALL of the above have been received, a revised Certified Parameters Listing will be issued, and you will begin reporting results by the new methods.
DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE! We encourage you to start familiarizing yourselves with the new method requirements and begin revising your SOPs now, so that your lab won’t be caught unprepared when the final deadline for implementation arrives.
