The Basin Planning Branch (BPB) is in the Division of Water Resources' (DWR) Water Planning Section.  BPB develops and maintains comprehensive basinwide plans for each of the state’s 17 river basins. The plans include recommendations approved by the Environmental Management Commission (EMC) to ensure that the waters of the state are being protected.

What's New

  • The 2024 Broad River Basinwide Water Resources Management Plan (basin plan) was approved by the Environmental Management Commission in March, 2025.   
  • The 2022-2024 Biennial Report on the Progress in Developing and Implementing Basinwide Water Resources Management Plans was approved by the Environmental Management Commission in September, 2024.
  • Basin planners are continuing to work on the fourth update to the Cape Fear River basin plan. More information can be found on the Cape Fear River basin's webpage.
