General Industrial Permits

North Carolina has 21 General Industrial Permits.  Industries that are eligible for one of the General Industrial Permits are issued a Certificate of Coverage (COC). Each facility's COC contains the same requirements as for all other facilities covered under the same General Permit.  Some important notes about General Industrial Permits:

  • General Industrial Permits are renewed every five years.
  • The following General Industrial Permits will be renewed on July 1, 2021:  NCG02 (Mining), NCG03 (Metal Fabrication), NCG06 (Food & Kindred), NCG08 (Transit & Transportation), NCG09 (Paints & Varnishes), NCG10 (Used Motor Vehicles), and NCG12 (Landfills).
  • The draft General Industrial Permits will be public noticed from May 17 - June 16, 2021.
  • DEMLR will administratively extend the current version of these permits until June 30, 2021 so that the permit can renew at the beginning of a monitoring period.
  • All General Industrial Permittees will have their COCs automatically renewed with the new permits if they are current on their permit fees.  A new COC can be obtained via a COC Request Form after August 1, 2021.

Click on the General Permit number below to open a menu that contains the permit, the Notice of Intent (NOI), data monitoring forms (DMRs), and other documents.  The "Print Package" contains all of these materials in a single document.  Note that there may be small differences between the monitoring forms within the Print Packages and the monitoring forms that are a separate link, but either is acceptable to use.
